Taylor and Mikaela’s vibrant outdoor wedding…

Taylor and Mikaela first met while attending Abilene Christian University. They were biology lab partners and didn’t get along too well, in the beginning, at least! They spent the next summer getting to know one another and before they knew it, they were getting engaged. Taylor popped the big question in a very well know landmark in downtown Abilene- the fountain in Everman Park. Mikaela said it was the easiest “Yes” of her entire life.

They both knew they wanted a low-key, low-stress wedding day. The most important detail was thay they were surrounded by their friends and family.
Mikaela wanted a neutral coor palette so that the flowers would stand out. They chose to use blue tones as the anchor and the florist pulled it all together with the final designs and colors.

Most of their day was DIY. The bride’s mother and best friend styled the table centerpieces and floral design around the cake arbor.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day?

We didn’t have a specific theme in mind. We just knew that we wanted it to be simple yet pretty. I am naturally drawn to blues so we had a lot of blue with some corals mixed in. We had a religious wedding but did not include anything specific. It was very important to Taylor and me that our families were very involved in the ceremony, so we put together a five year box. Family members from both sides wrote us letters that we will open on our 5th anniversary. We sealed the box shut in place of a unity candle!

Tell us about your flowers…

Our flowers made our wedding. I love flowers (so much that I married one!) so it was very important to me that they made a statement. We actually kept everything else really simple so that our flowers would shine. The florals provided most of the color elements on our day. They really popped next to the neutral dresses and suits that our bridal party wore.

Lets talk about decor? How did you decorate the ceremony and reception space

We did a ton of DIY. The photo backdrop and centerpieces were DIY. Taylor and I are very fortunate because so many of our friends and family pitched in to help make our dream day a reality! My dad made our head tables, my step-dad made our bench that doubled as our guest book as well as some metal decor and my MOH decorated the head tables. We did all the wedding set up the day of and it wouldn’t have been possible without all the help we received!

What were some of the favourite parts of your wedding?

My dad and step-dad really helped personalize the day. They each made pieces that are incredibly special to Taylor and me. My dad made the head tables at our wedding and we still have our sweetheart table in our home today. This is such a special reminder of our day every time we sit down to eat. My step-dad made a bench that doubled as a guest book. We have the bench on our front porch and we are able to spend a lot of time together outside on this piece! Overall, I felt our theme did a great job of reflecting both of us. We are both pretty simple people and were able to enjoy the natural beauty of our venue while spending time with the people we love the most.

What was the most anticipated or special moment from your day?

We chose not to do a first look so the most anticipated moment was seeing him. As I began to walk down the aisle, my dad was telling me jokes so I didn’t start crying immediately. Seeing him at the end waiting for me is the most special thing that I have ever experienced. It was like my person was patiently waiting for me to get there. I had to mindfully keep myself from sprinting to him. My dad and step-dad gave me away to him and I will always remember the way that he looked at me with such a deep love.

Do you have any advice for other couples planning their wedding right now?

Our advice would be to enjoy being engaged. It can be so stressful planning a wedding, so remember that you and your loved one are the most important things. Marriage advice is to find an activity that you don’t do without each other and make it a thing. Ours is grocery shopping and I look forward to that time every week!

Many congratulations to both Taylor and Mikaela on their vibrant outdoor wedding celebration. It was beautiful.

Much Love
