Now we all know about that unspoken etiquette about guests not upstaging the happy couple on their wedding day but on this occasion I think we can forgive Sally… Shula and Dan were married at Deer Park Hall in the Cotswolds and Sally, Shula’s gorgeous horse was responsible for getting the bride down the aisle!! With a purple flowers in her mane and a bespoke saddle especially for the wedding day I think you’ll all agree that she looked sensational. Shula and Dan didn’t scrub up too badly either!
Their elegant outdoor wedding was lovingly captured by Nick Brightman Photography and its clear to see what an amazing day it was for everyone involved. Read on to find out more about their details.
Tell us briefly how you both met as a couple…
Through a mutual friend when Daniel missed his train home from work, so ended up staying over, I was staying too and we got talking. The rest as they say, is history!
And what about the proposal?
We went to a spa hotel for my birthday and Dan popped the question in the outdoor swimming pool!
Who was your dress designer and boutique?
Stella York, from Caroline Clark Bridal Boutique, Droitwich. The dress was a fishtail with scalloped hen, lots of lace and sparkle, which I loved.
Could you give us a little detail about any of your accessories?
Deborahmarie bridal (see Facebook for contact) made a bolero for me to wear over the top during the day as the neckline of the dress was quite low cut.
Who did your make-up and hair?
Hair by Umberto Giannini, Worcester, and my make up was by Michelle G.
What did your bridesmaids wear?
My bridesmaids wore sage green dresses from Romantica of Devon, again bought from Caroline Clark.
Tell us a little bit about your ceremony…
The ceremony was outdoors in the grounds of deer park, in the pavilion area. We had bunting made by one of my bridesmaids to decorate the area, and I rode down the ‘aisle’ on my horse, Sally. A group of our friends sang This Marriage by Eric Whitacre, a capella.
Can you tell us about your reception?
We were able to access the venue the day before to set up which was fantastic, Katie Holian who was in charge of our day, was really helpful and accommodating. The breakfast room had a stunning view of the Malvern hills.
All of the bunting was made by best friend and bridesmaid Katy. She also made a bespoke saddle pad for my horse! I decorated the jugs for the flowers myself which were provided by Shelsley Herbs and Flowers. I also made the place cards, table names and table plan myself.
What was your cake like?
Three tiers, chocolate, lemon and Victoria sponge, decorated with real flowers and made by my friend Fliss, who enjoys making cakes for friends birthdays. It was her first wedding cake! She has since been asked by several other people to make theirs.
Did you work within a Budget? If so how did you allocate it?
Not specifically, we just tried to be sensible and make things ourselves where possible. Lots of our friends helped by doing things for free or a ‘mate’s rate’!
Where did you save money and how did you splurge?
We saved money by making decorations ourself and one of the biggest expenses was probably the food, as we ordered too much for the evening! But it was all delicious and many guests commented on how good it was.
What are your top tips for other couples getting married outdoors?
Have a contingency plan for rain- we were extremely lucky, but we had a second location indoors for if it rained, complete with a window for the horse to look through!
