A visit to Stratton Court Barn

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting Stratton Court Barn in Oxfordshire for a lovely day surrounded by other amazing wedding professionals for a look around their venue.

Built in 1870 Stratton Court Barn sits within Pool Farm near Bicester and is home to husband and wife team Chris and Cathy Wigmore. It has been lovingly restored and converted to create a beautifully light and modern event space with wall to ceiling windows with stunning views of the Oxforshire countryside. One of the key features that I absolutely adored, as a complete lover of the outdoor wedding, was the courtyard that really allowed for a flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces. With a feature of a large rustic wooden banqueting table, covered seating areas and strings of fairy lights criss crossing across the space it really made for the perfect outdoor event space for a warm summers evening.

A textile printing workshop with Anna Jayne Designs

After a look around the barn and outdoor spaces by wedding and events manager Karin, and armed with a tasty Chai latte provided by Madda Events we were invited into the lounge area where we were greeted by Anna from Anna Jayne Designs fabric printing extraordinaire! Based in Buckinghamshire, Anna creates bespoke printed fabrics and designs focusing on the wedding industry. We were all given the opportunity to create our own individual design to print on a canvas tote bag to take home…I was slightly dubious knowing my limited artistic ability but actually surprised myself with the opportunity to sit down and focus on something non work related for an hour! Even I was impressed with the end result!

Pre-lunch drinks

After our workshop we were taken back into the bar and had the pleasure of sampling some very tasty non alcholic cocktails [ the downside of us all driving!] On the menu was a rather delicious hibiscus sweet tea with raspberries, a grapefruit, honey and rosemary spritz and a non alcoholic bramble…AMAZING!!

A lunch to die for…

The absolute highlight of the day had to be our lunch. Karin explained that one of the things that Stratton Court tries to encourage with their couples is relaxed dining with incredible and mouthwateringly fresh food to be served directly to the table for everyone to get stuck in with, which is exactly what caterers Oxfordshire caterers Ross and Ross provide. The room was set up with a gigantic rustic banqueting table and wooden benches, with stunning hanging florals from Flowers by Kirsty. The sun beamed through the gigantic windows and we were treated to a most spectacular vegetarian feast of  sage, kale and shallot tarts, shaved radish, beetroot and herb ricotta salad, miso baked aubergine, dates, green salad with toasted buckwheat and new potatoes in garlic smoked salt….literally a full on taste sensation!

Our healthy lunch was then completely undone when Karin then let us loose on the dessert bar prepared by Cherry Tree Cakerie

A whole sideboard filled with lots of amazing treats including pistachio and cranberry chocolate bark, mojito flavoured marshmallows, raspberry chocolate brownies and lemon and elderflower biscuits to name but a few.

Weddings at Stratton Court Barn

We asked Karin why couples love to book Stratton Court Barn for their special day. She summed it up in three simple words. Stratton Court is fun, flexible and innovative and we couldn’t agree more. They really go out of their way to create a bespoke wedding unique and special to each and every couple and their connection from the indoor to the outdoor space is absolutely gorgeous.

Licenced for civil ceremonies for up to 100 guests their venue hire includes use of the main barn and bar area, courtyard and reception lawn, furniture, a full stocked cash bar, and full on the day event management with prices starting at a very reasonable £3000. You can view their full rate list here.

I would just like to thank Karin and her team for really making me feel so welcome at Stratton Court Barn, it really was a warm and friendly venue and its clear to see why their couples have chosen to get married there.
