Blue skies and sandy beaches was the backdrop for Mollie and Scotts Key Largo beach wedding, Florida. Photographer Tonya Laker tells us all about it…

A Key Largo Lighthouse wedding is the definition of surreal. It is dreamlike and you might give yourself a little pinch to make sure you’re not dreaming while at this gorgeous venue. I use the word “surreal” particulary because this beautiful couple, Mollie and Scott, have something in common with the word..They live in London and just around the corner from Notting Hill which just happens to be one of my favourite romantic comedies of all time. If you haven’t seen it you’re going to have no idea what i’m talking about howver if you have seen Notting Hill, well….This Key Largo Lighthouse wedding day was SURREAL!!

Most importantly, Mollie and Scott chose the Key Largo Lighthouse because “We wanted to have an intimate space where we could spend a great deal of quality time with our guests.” It was the perfect choice for their wedding venue.”

Mollies goes on to tell us more…

Tell us a little bit about your proposal…

Whew. Very long story short- Scott tricked me into insisting he play golf with his dad to celebrate Father’s day- by pretending he did not want to when his dad asked him to play. Of course I chimed in to insist that he had to play with his dad for father’s day- even if it was the weekend after. Little did I know, this was a set-up and the golf game was a decoy the entire time. My best friend, who is more like a sister than a friend, was with us as we went down to his family’s lake house, one of my favorite places ever and the location of the golf course.

While he and his dad left to “play golf” my best friend and I did our usual thing, we went for a long walk along the lake and talked about everything going on in our lives. As we approached a point on the lake behind the lake’s clubhouse, we saw an arbor set up with flowers and candles. Then Scott popped out behind me with roses and proposed under the Arbor he had hand-decorated. Champagne and a luncheon with some loved ones followed, but the story did not end there. After the luncheon, I was whisked away into a limo and handed an itinerary. Scott had planned a celebratory getaway to Chicago that included many of our favorite things. We saw Hamilton (our favorite show that we had seen in NY early on in our relationship), staying at a Kimpton hotel – our favorite hotel chain, and some other thoughtful details. It was an absolute dream.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?

For the wedding, we wanted to have an intimate space where we could spend a great deal of quality time with our guests. Living in London (we are American), we wanted to take the opportunity to really be with everybody. We loved that the Lighthouse offered a private area to do just that. For theme and style, we wanted beachy chic, but wanted to avoid cliches and overtly-beachy themes. We incorporated some touches from my Jewish background- we lit Shabbat candles on Friday night, broke the glass at our ceremony, and signed a Kettubah- my dad’s favorite part of the weekend!

Are you happy about your First Look decision?

Yes- it allowed us to be fully connected going into the ceremony and gave us the private moment to share this day together and remember it was fully about us.

What is your favorite design detail of your wedding day and why?

The flowers on the arbor under which we were married. They were stunning. Oh, and my bouquet!

Did you incorporate anything that was sentimental into your wedding day? What?

I wore the first piece of Jewelry that Scott gave me – a necklace. It was a surprise for him and he noticed it immediately and was very touched by it. That and the Ketubah Signing were extremely sentimental.

Bride’s Words About Tonya Laker Photography…

Tonya and her assistant Carrie were both so wonderful to work with. Tonya is incredibly talented and captured the love and joy of our special day. Not only that, she and Carrie were a pleasure to spend time with. That is so important when it comes to your wedding photographer, as you really do spend a great deal of time with that person on your big day. Tonya was incredibly organized and communicative throughout the wedding planning process- she made sure that we were on top of planning the logistics of who would be in which pictures- so when the time came for photos we were quick- it was easy- and we were able to jump into all of the festivities very quickly after the ceremony. Tonya had a fantastic attitude and was such a hard worker- we found her on the property the day before the wedding scoping out ideal angles and backgrounds for the photos!! We are so glad that we went with Tonya and recommend her without hesitation to anybody considering Palm Beach Photography!

Many congratulations to Mollie and Scott on their faboulous Key Largo beach wedding!

Much Love

Emily xx
